Actually... the others are in the building are making you really curious.

You stop, hand on the door about to push it open, only to stop and look up the stairwell. You know there were others in the building. Twice now you swore you heard someone moving down the the stairs. Who ever they were they had been quiet. And again you assumed it was a smaller group of people, as most had grouped together to make things easier. This building was 28 stories though. Going down each hallway would take forever... but you had already planned to move your room up to one of the higher floors. The third floor had just worked out as you hadn't planned to be here more than a couple days. If you were going to stay here being up higher was the smart choice.

Instead of going outside you turn and slowly move up the stairs. It was dark but each floor had a door that let light in. That was because on each floor the door opened into a small lobby area with windows. The building at one time had been a mix of apartment on most floors and then other floors opened up and rented out as office space. Even with the light it was more or less dark as fuck between floors.

At each floor you pause at the door, hold your breath as you open the door and peek down the dark quiet hallways. You didn't have time to search each floor right now but you could at least take a quick glance. It might even help you decide which floor to move up to if you stay. Floor after floor you follow the same routine. Open then door. Look down the hall then move up to the next floor. You continue this until you come to the 11th floor. As you pull the door you feel the weight of resistance. Carefully you pull on it again and hear the sound of metal. Locked. Someone had installed something on the other side and without some serious **** this door wasn't opening.
